my first blog.......vegan stuff

Hi everyone!
I'm LeAnne, a vegan, singer, office worker, wife and friend to an odd assortment of lovely folks living in Brooklyn.
I'm awake and wasn't able to sleep, so I felt I should, for some reason, share that with people I've possibly never met, nor will meet. So, here I am!
Two things have been on my mind recently.
1) where to get a great vegan lip plumper that works, and
2) why Prop 2 passing doesn't make me thrilled as everyone thinks it should.
First, the easy one: Yes!!  I found Urban Decay makes a nice little lip plumper , which I bought at the Sephora in Soho. It seems to fill in lines on my lips a bit, and makes them more pink-so I've only used it a couple times, since I don't care if people at work think I have a luscious mouth, so I'm saving it for going out, or when I'm behind a mic etc...I'll post pics later...

Now, for the more pressing issue. I was all set to get excited about Prop 2, which is supposed to make the lives of farm animals more comfortable by banning  battery cages etc....don't get me wrong-having room to turn around is certainly a step up for the animals-BUT-after listening to Gary Francione, in a great interview on Vegan Radio, I've been swayed.
I like to think people are more concerned with these issues in general, and that the passing of this bill means people really are becoming more educated about where their food comes from-which is great! However, In the long run, I'm not sure we're focusing on the bigger picture.
Obviously I want animals to suffer less. I'm a vegan- But until animals are no longer considered a food and clothing source, getting measures like these passed, means MORE animals, not less, end up slaughtered.
Why? Because people will (and DO) buy more meat, thinking it's somehow now humane. Farms support this measure because it is good for business-really. I even saw that the fur industry is trying to promote "humane" fur!! What? -SOOOO the sweet little animal is given a pillow before being anally electrocuted-oh gee, that's SO much better!!! -but I digress.

Let me make this very clear. There is no such thing as "humane" meat. ALL animals, regardless of their cage size, suffer in the meat industry.  They are considered "units" and "product", not animals with beating hearts, and the ability to feel pain.  They all end up slaughtered in grotesque and PAINFUL ways, by an industry that ALSO frequently abuses it's employees (though if killing creatures is your trade, does this really surprise you?), pollutes the environment, is bad for your health, and is terribly CRUEL!
All of this and more is covered on Gary's' website: but be warned-some of the images are graphic.
So basically, while in 7 years (when the law should go into effect-IF it's enforced, which is rarely the case in these matters), some of the animals will be more comfortable before they are sliced up-and MORE animals will be sliced up. ~Animals who, though they are not your cat or dog, have as much capacity for pain and suffering as your cat and dog-please just think about it~because people feel that they somehow are now supporting "kindness to animals"!!! More will be killed-MORE than the 53 BILLION! (NOT including fish and other sea animals) already killed globally every year.

If animal advocacy groups were to spend more time teaching people about how to eliminate animal products from their lives altogether, instead of how to feel good about slightly less abuse-well, we'd see major change I think.
